Election Day 2008!

IMG_2456Have you yet fulfilled your most important civic duty on election day? Hoping to get the matter out of the way early, Nicole and I woke this morning at about 6.30am. Our polling place was the Goodwill Baptist Church on Kalorama Road NW in Adams Morgan, literally right around the corner from our apartment, and when we got in line at about ten minutes before the polls opened, we were already a full block away from the entrance.

Once the polls opened, the line moved rather quickly, and we entered at about 7.30am. The system inside was a little quircky, with the registration and voting lines crossing right by the entrance, but my own experience was rather painless. Within about 5 minutes, I was done and on my way out.

In retrospect, I kind of wish that I had mustered up the gall to take a macro photo of the paper ballot (I thought they looked kind of cool)… but I was a little unsure about the consequences of being caught doing such, so I refrained. However, I am considering calling the DC BOEE to ask if they have a leftover ballot I could have (I know, I’m a dork).

But as for the matter of getting out the vote, if you haven’t voted yet, you should do so. And if you don’t know where to go, Google Maps has provided a nifty way to find your local polling place (enter in your residence address). So, go vote!

My boyfriend’s mother took a picture of her ballot, and I was contemplating the ramifications of doing so. I’m not sure it matters - it’s your vote and if you want to share that’s your prerogative, right?

in theory yes… but i wasn’t sure about the policy regarding it. could someone taking a picture of a ballot equate to an intent to reproduce fake ballots and affect an election? im probably overthinking it, but still, you never know these days!
