G20 kills my commute

IMG_2561So, the G20 summit was this past weekend here in DC. I’m happy to say that the proceedings wreaked havoc on downtown all weekend. My commute home from Georgetown to Adams Morgan, normally a brisk 40-45 minutes between two different busses, was about 90 minutes.

From the spot where I pick up the bus, at Wisconsin Avenue and M Street NW, literally every intersection we passed had a slew of cops (not DDOT Traffic Operations personnel) directing traffic. One single block of travel on M Street took as much as 10 minutes!

But I finally made it to Farragut Square, at which point I decided to unleash the point-and-shoot, scurry into the middle of the road, and in the face of impending doom (read: cops that didn’t even care what I was doing because two caravans of world leaders were approaching from different directions), I snapped this photo. From where I was, a look east (left in photo) down Eye Street NW would have revealed flashers at literally every intersection for about 10 or 12 blocks. A look dead ahead, due south on 17th Street, revealed the same.

Thanks G20.
