Yes We Can

IMG_2464The one thing I can say is that the weather does not do this day justice… To be 100% honest, despite the fact that it was raining, cold, and windy when I went to bed last night, I was kind of expecting to wake up to a warm, sunny, spring-like day. All things considered, you can’t exactly say that I’m crazy for hoping that would happen.

But alas, it’s gray and cool. No worries though, as American’s have made their voices heard almost as if they had been screaming from their rooftops. “Emphatic,” “definitive,” or “decisive” are words that many are using to describe this occasion.

Last night was a raucus night outside the window of my seventh floor apartment in Adams Morgan and it began with fireworks in the Kalorama Triangle park (the small one by the bus stop at 19th Street). People stood on their balconies and cheered, car horns blared down Columbia Road, and people high-fived as they passed each other on the sidewalks. If you listened closely, you could here the cheers of crowds of people stepping out of bars on 18th Street, and possibly even U Street. Apparently, the U Street corridor was crazy. Apparently, outside the White House, there were even more people. Crazy.

But what I want to know is when will the Obama’s make their first visit to Ben’s? Can I be there? It would be an honor to pick up the tab for the first family…

But seriously… I’m excited. That’s a pretty good way to put it. This election has told me/us this: We are ready for and will embrace change. We are not and can not be afraid to dream. We are and always should be driven by hope.

This reminds me of one of my favorite movie quotes of all time, written by Stephen King and performed by Tim Robbins as Andy Dufresne in “The Shawshank Redemtion”:

“Remember… hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.”

Yes we can.
