Welcome back…?

IMG_2604OK, so it’s been a while since I last posted. My most sincere apologies. The run up to the Thanksgiving holiday was crazy around the office. But anyway, it’s early December now, so a short little restrospective of the holiday weekend is in order.

Basically, traffic sucked. SUCKED! Nicole and I hit the road on Wednesday morning, around 1100am and arrived home in Connecticut around 800pm. That’s nine (9) hours. And it’s normally a 6 hour drive. Maryland stunk, as they are currently tearing up I95 north of Baltimore for the “toll lanes.” Also, they are completely reconfiguring the I95-I695 interchange north of the city, dead in the center of all of this toll lane expansion work. This spells the antithesis of fun.

Then, Deleware. Ugh, Deleware. No offense to like the three people I know that are from Deleware (you’re not reading this, are you?), but seriously… 95 North in Deleware is like an 11 mile parking lot. I love the irony of this photo, cruising by the rest stop in Deleware doing 10 MPH as we pass the “High Speed Merge” sign. Awesome.

Moving on, the New Jersey Turnpike was fine until we got to the last exit and the approach to the George Washington Bridge which was, of course, hellish. I’ve been over the GWB many, many times, but never has it been “stop for two minutes, go ten feet, stop for ten minutes,” so on and so forth. I’ll be totally honest when I say that I never really realized how much the deck of a suspension bridge bounces up and down. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, get yourself stuck in traffic up there one day.

And so we finally got to CT, had a good, but different Thanksgiving day with family in Massachussetts, and had the best lunch with all the sisters, brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews, at Pepe’s in New Haven. Nicole and I make a point of stopping there every time were up in CT. We then hit the road for PA to see Nicoles family for a few days and got to see plenty of her nephews, which is always nice.

And finally the drive back to DC from PA… normally a three hour drive. This time around, it took 5 hours, door to door. Again, Deleware and Maryland were essentially, parking lots.

I guess the cheap gas prices had everyone back on the road again… that’s a good thing, no?
