The sweet sounds of baseball
Ahhh, you know that spring is near when you see a high school baseball team practicing infield drills in late February.
I had left work yesterday and hopped on the 34B into Arlington to meet a friend and former coworker at Carpool in the Ballston neighborhood. When I got off the bus at the corner of Quincy and Washington, I immediately noticed the baseball field across the street, lights on and all. As I crossed the street and the field came into better view, you could see the infielders taking ground balls and turning double plays. The trademark ping of the ball off the coach’s bat echoed around the field, trapped in by the trees surrounding it.
We all know that spring training is under way in Florida and Arizona and that the season is rapidly approaching, but it was nice to receive a sign like this a little closer to home.
